SR 70 Bentleyville Interchange: This project involves the total reconstruction of Interstate 70 from approximately ¾ mile west of the Ginger Hill interchange (Exit 32-A) extending east approximately ¾ mile west of the Bentleyville interchange (Exit 32-B). The Contractor on this $75,894,753.83 dollar project is Golden Triangle Construction Company, Inc. The project includes the widening of Interstate 70 to provide a wider median; lengthening and reconfiguring ramp acceleration and deceleration lanes; replacement of the bridge carrying I-70 over SR 2040, Pigeon Creek, and Norfolk Southern Railroad; replacement of the bridge carrying PA Route 917 over I-70; and secondary roadway improvements. This work will occur in Washington County within the Borough of Bentleyville, and Somerset and Fallowfield Townships. Completion is scheduled for December 2018.

November 2017 Update: Paving continues in the median area in preparation for shifting the west bound traffic. West bound traffic will be shifted from the existing roadway onto new concrete and asphalt. This shift will occur sometime after the Thanksgiving Holiday. Also, the new Roundabout will be opened to traffic this Thursday, weather permitting. Work on the reconstruction of Wilson Road (SR 2040) continues. The Contractor is finishing concrete sidewalk and curb and paving business entrances. There will be intermittent short term delays on SR 2040 (Wilson Road) during this construction. Motorists are urged to use caution while travelling thru the project.

July 2017 Update: Work continues on the bridge carrying I-70 over SR 2040 (Wilson Road); Pigeon Creek and a Norfolk Southern Railroad line near Bentleyville Exit 32-B. The Eastbound half of the new bridge is nearly complete. Work on the reconstruction of Wilson Road (SR 2040) also continues. The Contractor is constructing new business entrances, curb gutter and sidewalks. Construction continues on the new roundabout. There will be intermittent short term delays on SR 2040 (Wilson Road) during this construction. Work continues on the new I-70 Eastbound lanes. Motorists are urged to use caution while travelling thru the project.

May 2017 Update: Work continues on the bridge carrying I-70 over SR 2040 (Wilson Road); Pigeon Creek and a Norfolk Southern Railroad line near Bentleyville Exit 32-B. The Contractor is now working on the construction of the new Eastbound bridge deck. Work continues on the reconstruction of Wilson Road (SR 2040). The Contractor has finished drainage work and is excavating for the new road. East bound on- ramp traffic from SR 2040 (Wilson Road) to I-70 East, and I-70 West bound off ramp traffic to SR 2040 has been temporarily shifted from the existing ramps to newly paved temporary ramps. This traffic is being redirected so the Contractor can begin construction of the new Roundabout. There will be intermittent short term delays on SR 2040 (Wilson Road) during this construction. Work continues on the new I-70 Eastbound lanes. This work is behind the barrier and does not affect traffic. Motorists are urged to use caution while travelling thru the project.

The Contractor is now working on the construction of the new Eastbound bridge deck. Work continues on the reconstruction of Wilson Road (SR 2040). The Contractor is currently installing new pipe in the south bound shoulder and traffic has been shifted onto the north bound lane and temporary widening. East bound on ramp traffic from SR 2040 (Wilson Road) to I-70 East, will be temporarily shifted from the existing ramp to a newly paved temporary ramp. This traffic is being redirected so the Contractor can begin construction of the new Roundabout. There will be intermittent short term delays on SR 2040 (Wilson Road) during this construction. Work has started grading the new I-70 Eastbound lanes. This work is behind the barrier and does not affect traffic. Motorists are urged to use caution while travelling thru the project.

There will be intermittent short term delays on SR 2040 (Wilson Road) during this construction. The contractor has started grading the new I-70 eastbound lanes. This work is behind the barrier and does not affect traffic. Motorists are urged to use caution while travelling thru the project.

January 2017 Update: While most work has been suspended for the winter, some activities continue. Work on the I-70 Bridge over Wilson Road (SR 2040) at the Bentleyville Exit is ongoing. This work is observable “off road” and will not impact I-70 traffic. This also includes GRS (Geogrid Reinforced Slope) embankment construction east bound near the Ginger Hill Exit. Night work will be infrequent on I-70 East and West bound between the hours of 8:00 PM, continuing thru the night till 6:00 AM in the morning. This would be for emergency pothole patching. Motorists are still urged to use caution while travelling thru the project, regardless of the time of day.

October 2016 Update: Work continues this Fall throughout the project. SR 2040 (Wilson Road) reconstruction is substantially complete a week early. The temporary signal, alternating traffic in a single lane is shut off and both lanes of Wilson Road are now open. Other work is observable “off road” and will not impact I-70 traffic. This includes ramp construction; shoulder construction; culvert extensions; pipe installation; utility relocation and excavation. Night work will be infrequent on I-70 East and West bound between the hours of 8:00 PM, continuing thru the night till 6:00 AM in the morning. Motorists are still urged to use caution while travelling thru the project, regardless of the time of day. Also, the I-70 Bridge demolition and reconstruction continues but is behind traffic barrier and will not affect I-70 traffic. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling thru the project.

August 2016 Update: Work continues throughout the project. SR 2040 (Wilson Road) reconstruction has begun and will progress in the coming weeks. Motorists can expect to encounter single lane flagging during this work. In addition, SR 2040 between the west bound off ramp and the east bound on ramp of I-70 at the Bentleyville Exit # 32B will be closed beginning Friday August 26th at 8:00 PM thru the weekend and reopen Monday morning August 29th at 6:00 AM. A signed detour will be posted for this weekend. West bound I-70 traffic wanting to exit at Bentleyville will have to use Exit 31 (Kammerer) as a turnaround. East bound I-70 traffic wanting to exit at Bentleyville will have to use Exit 35 (Centerville) as a turnaround. Other work is observable “off road” and will not impact I-70 traffic. This includes ramp construction; shoulder construction: culvert extensions; pipe installation; utility relocation and excavation. Night work continues on I-70 East and West bound between the hours of 8:00 PM, continuing thru the night till 6:00 AM in the morning. I-70 will be reduced to one lane in each direction during this time period. Also, I-70 Bridge demolition will begin the week of Monday August 15th and continue for several weeks. This demolition is behind traffic barriers and will not affect I-70 traffic. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling thru the project.

June 2016 Update: On I-70, the east bound off ramp at the Ginger Hill exit to SR 917 was opened to traffic Friday June 10. Construction is complete on the new SR 917 Bridge over I-70 and was opened Friday June 10, also. Night work continues on I-70 East and West bound between the hours of 8:00 PM continuing thru the night till 6:00 AM in the morning. I-70 will be reduced to one lane in each direction during this time period. Other work is observable “off road” and will not impact I-70 traffic. This includes other ramp construction; culvert extensions; pipe installation; utility relocation and excavation. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling during the project.

April 2016 Update: The Contractor will be setting new beams for the SR 917 Bridge over I-70. This work will occur beginning 8:00 PM Tuesday night April 19th and continuing thru the night till 6:00 AM Wednesday morning, April 20th. I-70 will be reduced to one lane in each direction during this time period. In addition, traffic will be stopped in all lanes for 15 minute intervals while the individual beams are lifted from the truck and set on the new bridge abutment. Also, on Friday night April 22nd, the east bound off ramp from I-70 to SR 917 will be closed for reconstruction. This closure will last for approximately 50 days. Motorists will be able to access SR 917 via the Bentleyville exit during this time period. Other work will be observable “off road” and will not impact I-70 traffic. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling during the project.

February 2016 Update: The Contractor is continuing work, installing new drain pipe on SR 2040 (Main Street). Excavation continues “off road” along I-70. This includes slope excavation and Ramp extension work. Rock embankments are being built at various locations. Work on an arch culvert extension is progressing off Bentleyville Road. Water line installation is starting in the Gibson Plan. This work will continue thru winter, weather permitting. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling during the project.

December 2015 Update: The Contractor is continuing work on SR 2040 (Main St. and Wilson Rd.) and SR 917 in Bentleyville. The Contractor is installing new sidewalk, curb and drainage on SR 2040 (Wilson Road & Main Street) and SR 917 in Bentleyville. Clearing and Grubbing continues “off road” along I-70. This work will continue thru winter, weather permitting. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling during the project.

October 2015 Update: Utility relocation work is currently ongoing on various secondary roads within the project. This includes sewer line and utility pole relocation on SR 2040 (Wilson Road) and SR 917 (Pittsburgh Road). The Contractor is currently working on SR 2040 (Main St. and Wilson Rd.) and SR 917 in Bentleyville. The Contractor is widening this road and motorists will experience single lane flagging. The work includes roadway widening; pipe installation; and constructing new concrete sidewalk and curb. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling thru the construction project.
